Malcom (aka Joe), Lee Cox, and I went to Manners School and lived in Washington Park growing up. Our houses were an easy bike ride apart. We spent some great times together as kids acting out roles in westerns, taking cover behind sheds and garages in the alley. We played with toy cars and trucks and rode bikes. Joe said he wanted a car when he grew up that had dual side mirrors which were not standard equipment in those days. He died in a one car accident while driving down from the bluffs on a curve on Bunkum Road circa 1969. I went to the funeral home and got reaquinted with his mom, dad, and sisters. His death at such a young age was a tragic loss of a great guy.

I too remember Joe as a super nice guy.  I sat next to his wife (Janet) in drivers training classes.  We played basketball together at Lansdowne and  East Side.  During the summers my church (Trinity Lutheran) would play his (Wshington Park Baptist) in softball at Jones Park.  They had a good team.  In basketball he played guard and had a very good outside shot.  Many times my  Dad picked both of us up after practice at East Sideand took both of us back  home to Washington Park/Rosemont.   He was very polite and always thanked my fasther for the ride.  I attended his funeral with Harold Roberts.  I still have a senior class photo signed by Joe.

Joe was a really good person and a great basketball player. I attended Joe's funeral while I was home from USMC Boot Camp. That was 1964.

I could be wrong about the date. I remember that I was still in uniform.
